Visa Processes $10 Billion in Crypto-Linked Card Transactions
Visa has reported that its crypto-linked card programs have processed over $10 billion in transactions during the first quarter of 2026, representing a 180% increase compared to the same period last year. The payment giant now supports crypto card partnerships with over 100 digital asset companies globally, allowing consumers to spend their cryptocurrency holdings at any Visa-accepting merchant.
The most popular crypto card programs by volume are those offered by Coinbase, Crypto.com, Binance, and Nexo. These cards automatically convert cryptocurrency to local fiat currency at the point of sale, providing a seamless spending experience for cardholders while merchants receive traditional currency settlement.
Expansion of Crypto Payment Infrastructure
Visa has also expanded its USDC settlement capabilities to include additional blockchain networks. The company now settles USDC payments on Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, and Avalanche, providing its financial institution partners with multiple options for blockchain-based settlement. This infrastructure reduces settlement times from the traditional 2-3 business days to minutes.
The company's head of crypto, Cuy Sheffield, stated that crypto-linked cards have moved beyond the early adopter phase and are now attracting mainstream consumers who may not identify as "crypto users" but appreciate the rewards and cashback features these cards offer. Many crypto cards offer 1-5% cashback in cryptocurrency, which has proven popular with rewards-conscious consumers.
Mastercard has reported similar growth in its crypto card programs, indicating a broader trend of cryptocurrency integration into everyday payment systems.
